Elias Adestam got a podium place from the season’s third round of the NXT Gen Cup at the German Nürburgring, where the forces of the weather put the field to extra great tests.
Adestam went into this weekend’s clashes with two previous victories in the bag, having won races at both of the previous two events in the inaugural season of the Junior Electric Racing Championship. The 17-year-old from Nacka, however, had a slightly harder time at the Nürburgring, where the notorious microclimate in the Eifel Mountains, as usual, became a factor to be reckoned with. with a restart two laps from the finish. Adestam, and a clutch of other drivers, misjudged the braking to the tight first hairpin and slid helplessly into the sandbank – where any chance of an advanced result was quickly buried. Adestam was indeed able to get back on track, but now well behind the lead, and took finally the checkered flag as 12th. It also became his starting position on the grid for Race 2, where the rain was now even more noticeable. This time, however, Adestam was able to effectively navigate his way through the field, all the way to the podium with an eventual third place finish. – This was a weekend where the results list and the feeling say two different things, says Elias Adestam. In terms of results it was downright bad – although I don’t want to detract from a podium – but I’ve also worked hard to isolate the mental problem that led to a number of mistakes on my part this year. I got a very good receipt for that job in Race 2, where I felt a whole new confidence in driving and was able to proceed calmly and methodically. Therefore, I myself see this as the most important weekend so far for me this year. After two straight competitions in Germany, the NXT Gen Cup now returns to Sweden for the final part of the season. The next race is on August 18-19 at Gelleråsen Arena in Karlskoga, where Elias Adestam topped the championship’s official pre-season test earlier this year. – Now it’s back to Sweden, recharge, and take new steps before the final races, Elias Adestam rounds off. We’re just halfway through the season now, so anything can happen. The championship is very much alive and I know that I can fight for this title all the way. Elias Adestam is now third in the NXT Gen Cup standings, 56 points behind leading American Ellis Spiezia.
